Until we’re able to return to the studio and the stage, our dancers are dancing at home, because not dancing is just not an option 💙

✨CORRECTION: class is at 12noon EDT! ✨
Dancers: get ready for Lunchtime Barre with Katherine Barkman! Tomorrow, Thursday, March 26 at 12noon EST on our Instagram live! This will be a 45 minute barre class that can be modified or amplified to fit all levels.

“I am so excited to teach this at home ballet barre designed to connect us through the joy of movement. Barre is such an essential part of a dancer's day. I find it is the time to center your mind and become present to your movement. Exercises that strengthen our bodies and uplift our spirits. Through this challenging time, dancing has become my glimmer of hope each day. Making time to grow, improve, aspire, and do what I love until it is time for the curtain to rise again.
All levels are welcome to join and I will be happy to answer questions at the end of the session!
Hope to see you there!”
With Love,
Katherine

・・・ While we find ourselves in the utmost of difficult times, and as we struggle through our daily lives, we cannot forget the artists who have committed their lives to their artistry - to bringing us their very best in dance for @thewashingtonballet.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Washington Ballet has shifted the remainder of the performance season to May and June. As a result, many of our dancers will face financial difficulties in the coming weeks because of this unexpected and immediate layoff.
The Washington Ballet dancers never fail to bring us joy, beauty, and inspiration through their artistry and athleticism. They are the unfailing pillars of DC's vibrant cultural community. Now, it's our turn to support them.

Donate now and help us raise $20,000 in emergency relief funds for our Company, Studio Company, and Professional Training Division students without a financial safety net at this time. Funds will directly and completely go to dancers who need support for rent, living expenses, and food.
Our company dancers from abroad cannot get additional work due to visa restrictions. Our Studio Company dancers do not qualify for unemployment because they are not signed on the same contract as our full company dancers. Several of our Professional Training Division students are from abroad and cannot return home at this time. They need our support.

It is times like this that test our compassion and the very nature of why we give. Thank you for helping our young talented dancers during this crisis. Please share this message with your networks and re-post on social media with the hashtag #TWBrelief. Let's do this for the love of dance, for Julie and Victor, and for the love of our TWB dancers. Together, we will emerge a stronger family.

With much hope,
Ginger Dietrich

‼️The Washington School of Ballet will suspend classes beginning Saturday, March 14 through March 31 following DCPS. This will include all divisions from Creative Dance through the Professional Training Division as well as all open Adult classes and workshops. ‼️
•
Our school staff will remain online but not in our buildings on Wisconsin and Mississippi Avenues. Please feel free to reach out via email with any questions.
•
At this time we intend to offer classes during our scheduled spring break April 13-April 19 and adding a week of classes at the end of the year. This would make our last class of the year May 30. Should there be a continued suspension of classes we will continue to add classes into June.
•
We are grateful for your patience as we navigate these unprecedented circumstances and look forward to seeing you back in the studio when we are able to safely return to class.
