featuring Julie Kent and Marcelo Gomes! (@juliekentofficial and @marcelua ) This sublime pas de deux from Swan Lake will take you on an adventure like no other!

Take the time to let yourself truly feel all the emotions and imagine how you can evoke similar depth in your artistry.

Just because you aren’t taking class in a studio doesn’t mean “class” isn’t taking place all around you every day! Stop. See. Feel. Learn. We will all be better artists when we meet back at the barre!

featuring Xiomara Reyes and Rolando Sarabia! (@xiomarosa and @rolandosarabiadancer ) We know there are dozens (if not hundreds) of virtual class opportunities online every day, but we encourage you to also take this time to see and feel art.

This time outside the studio offers each of us the chance to focus on other areas of our artistry. Take advantage of this time! Whether you are healing your body/mind, soaking up art that you’ve not had the time to enjoy, including new strength training into your routine, working on corrections you’ve not had the time to fix, etc., there is so much to do!

This is a special note for ALL dancers and parents:

We are in a unique time right now when it feels like we are able to indulge in more virtual classes than we ever thought possible! What a special treat it is to see some of our favorite artists sharing class with us one after another, all day long - every day!

Although this is a huge treat, it can also be a tricky predicament in terms of proper technique and safe training. We encourage you to choose your classes wisely. By all means, watch and be inspired! 🌟 Just remember our teachers carefully plan out each level’s training to ensure the building blocks of ballet are added at just the right time for optimum progression, while avoiding bad habits and risk of injury in the future. If you have any questions about additional classes or cross-training, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Remember to go to Google Classroom today and see all the ways you can elevate your training from home!

Friends are connected heart to heart. Distance and time can’t break them apart.

Do you miss your dance friends? Make sure to call or FaceTime one another while you are apart. It won’t be long until you’ll be back in the studios dancing together again. 👯‍♀️ ❤️

When times are difficult and worry seems to create a dark cloud overhead, this is when you can really see and deeply appreciate the stars. These precious beams of light continue shining brightly, reminding us we aren’t alone.

At The Washington School of Ballet, we are blessed with many stars (beautiful souls) who shine their lights on us all the time, and especially now.

Thank you 🌟@twbwomenscommittee 🌟 for creating the campaign to raise funds to support our Professional Training Division students, Trainees, and Studio Company dancers🌟 Thank you 🌟@twbjetesociety 🌟 for your support in these efforts. Thank you 🌟@giancarlo_perez_dancer 🌟 for creating a campaign for the Studio Co dancers.

Huge thanks to 🌟 EVERYONE 🌟 who has taken a moment to send an encouraging word and/or donated to financially support our student artists during this difficult time.

We know everyone is going through their own struggles right now, and we hope you know how much we appreciate your love and kindness. We are collectively sending each of you our heartfelt thanks and promising to bring you joy and healing through the beauty of dance in the near future. Until then? Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other!

Dear Women's Committee and Friends,

While we find ourselves in the utmost of difficult times, and as we struggle through our daily lives, we cannot forget the artists who have committed their lives to their artistry - to bringing us their very best in dance for @thewashingtonballet.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Washington Ballet has shifted the remainder of the performance season to May and June. As a result, many of our dancers will face financial difficulties in the coming weeks because of this unexpected and immediate layoff.

The Washington Ballet dancers never fail to bring us joy, beauty, and inspiration through their artistry and athleticism. They are the unfailing pillars of DC's vibrant cultural community. Now, it's our turn to support them.

Donate now and help us raise $20,000 in emergency relief funds for our Company, Studio Company, and Professional Training Division students without a financial safety net at this time. Funds will directly and completely go to dancers who need support for rent, living expenses, and food.

Our company dancers from abroad cannot get additional work due to visa restrictions. Our Studio Company dancers do not qualify for unemployment because they are not signed on the same contract as our full company dancers. Several of our Professional Training Division students are from abroad and cannot return home at this time. They need our support.

It is times like this that test our compassion and the very nature of why we give. Thank you for helping our young talented dancers during this crisis.

Please share this message with your networks and re-post on social media with the hashtag #TWBrelief. Let's do this for the love of dance, for Julie and Victor, and for the love of our TWB dancers. Together, we will emerge a stronger family. [Link in bio to donate]

With much hope,

It’s story time:

At the center of these huge group hugs, you will find one petite woman being engulfed by support, appreciation, and love.

At the culmination of one of the three “Next Big Thing” performances, Ms. Reyes shared her congratulations to the dancers, gratefulness to the audience, and thanks to the incredible TWSB faculty and staff. especially her colleague and love of her life, Mr. Imaev. ❤️ She couldn’t hold back the tears as she stood so vulnerably in front of everyone.

As the dancers watched her try to stand composed and stop the tears, they ran back into the studio to hold her (2nd pic). As more realized what had happened, they all ran over to help comfort her and each other (1st pic). THIS. This is what family looks like. These pictures represent what TWSB is to the many dancers who pass through the doors on their journeys.

As we celebrate our 75th year, let us joyfully celebrate the people that are the true representations of the 75 years of success.

Never underestimate the difference you can make. May the next 75 years be filled with many more moments like these. To all of our audience members, dancers, families, faculty, staff, and neighbors - THANK YOU for everything! 🙏🏼 Congratulations to everyone for another fabulous winter showcase!

@xiomarosa @rimaev @mimmo_miccolis_official @kmg023 @kriwi_folksy et al @juliekentofficial Carolynn 🌟Please accept our apologies if your name isn’t included... we appreciate everyone!

“We watch a sunlight dust dance,
and we try to be that lively,
but nobody knows what music those particles hear.
Each of us has a secret companion musician to dance to.
Unique rhythmic play, a motion in the street we alone know and hear.”

Thank you @thewashingtonballet for this FABULOUS #FlashBackFriday to the 1960s when First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy brought her daughter Caroline to take class at TWSB! ✨
•
In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of TWSB, we're sharing special notes from our alumni, including Caroline Kennedy:
•
“Congratulations to The Washington Ballet on its 75th anniversary and my warmest greetings to all of the dancers and students who have come together to celebrate this incredible milestone. My mother knew The Washington Ballet was a special school from the time she was a student in one of the adult classes, and so she chose it as the place where I would take my first-ever ballet class. I was only four years old so my memories of dancing like a butterfly and swimming like a fish with Miss Day and Miss Huertematte are somewhat limited, but those days instilled in me a deep love and appreciation of ballet that exists today. It has been a pleasure to see The Washington Ballet grow from a small school into one of our nation's cultural treasures, under the leadership of the amazing Mary Day, whom we remember and honor today. I am sure Miss Day would be proud of her company and the extraordinary direction and vision of Julie Kent, who carries forward her legacy. My best wishes to you all as you gather to mark this important anniversary and to celebrate your bright future."

Recently TWSB had the pleasure of presenting a Black History program with CAAPA, Coalition of African Americans in the Performing Arts. CAAPA produced this show in THEARC Theater on Sunday, January 26th to kick off Black History Month.

The Washington School of Ballet students performed two works: "Still I Rise" portraying the iconic Maya Angelou poem. The poem was narrated live by former TWSB student, Maya Heussen. Secondly, they performed an original African dance work by faculty member Antoinette Connell with live drumming by Gary Connell.

As seen in @dancemagazine 🌟 TWSB’s Xiomara Reyes, Professional Training Division Head, gives coveted hands-on corrections to 2019 Summer Intensive students.

Ms Reyes has such a vibrant passion for teaching and has earned a reputation for being able to see the potential in each dancer AND help them tap into it! Plus, she brings her own experience as a beloved former principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre. There’s something simply magical that happens when a nurturing teacher explains with words, movements, and emotions. Whether you pass through our doors during the summer program or year-round, there’s one thing we know for sure: you will be a better dancer AND person for knowing Ms Reyes.

At TWSB’s SI you will be given all the tools to take your dancing to the next level! Let us be part of your journey!
